Indoor Rule Clarification

Slide Tackling Video Examples

To help officials with determining whether an incident of slide tackling has occurred in their matches, the MSA has created a series of video clips detailing various scenarios where players are seen sliding.

Please remember, in indoor soccer 6 v 6, Sliding is not an offence by itself. Stretching for a ball is not an offence and is not sliding. The distance between a player and their opponent/ball is a key factor.

Legal Sliding Scenarios

1. Defender slides to prevent goal with no opponent within playing distance of ball - no contact of player or ball - play on - advantage, goal is valid
2. Defender slides to prevent goal with no opponent within playing distance of ball - contact with ball - play on - corner kick
3. Attacker slides to tap in goal with no opponent within playing distance of ball - contact with ball - play on - goal
4. Defender slides to block pass with no opponent within playing distance of ball - no contact with player - play on
5. Defender slides to keep ball in play with no opponent within playing distance of ball - no contact with player - play on
6. Goalkeeper "slides" for the ball hands first with no opponent within playing distance of the ball - no contact with player - play on
7. Goalkeeper "slides" for the ball hands first with opponent within playing distance of the ball - no contact with player - play on
8. Goalkeeper "slides" for the ball hands first with opponent within playing distance of the ball - contact with attacker - play on
9. Goalkeeper slides for the ball with no opponent within playing distance of the ball - goalkeeper contacts ball - play on

Illegal Slide Tackling Scenarios

1. Attacker slides to reach pass with opponent within playing distance of ball - no contact with player or ball - dangerous play - FK to defending team
2. Defender slides to block pass with opponent within playing distance of ball - no contact with player or ball - dangerous play - FK to attacking team from top of arc
3. Attacker slides to reach pass with opponent within playing distance of ball - attacker contacts ball - FK to defending team and caution to attacker
4. Defender slides to block pass with opponent within playing distance of ball - defender contacts ball - advantage, goal is valid
5. Defender slides to block pass with opponent within playing distance of ball - no contact with player or ball - dangerous play - FK to the attacking team
6. Defender slides to block pass with opponent within playing distance of ball - defender contacts ball - FK to the attacking team and caution to the defender
7. Defender slides to keep ball in play with opponent within playing distance of ball - no contact with player or ball - dangerous play - FK to attacking team
8. Defender slides to keep ball in play with opponent within playing distance of ball - defender contacts attacker - FK to attacking team and caution to the defender
9. Defender slides to keep ball in play with opponent within playing distance of ball - defender contacts ball - FK to attacking team and caution to the defender
10. Goalkeeper slides for the ball with opponent within playing distance of the ball - goalkeeper contacts attacker - penalty kick and caution for the goalkeeper

Please note: In cases where a slide tackle has occurred, should this tackle result in the denying of an obvious goalscoring opportunity (DOGSO) situation, a dismissal would be the appropriate action taken, even in cases of dangerous play.
